Ajo artists Claire Bistline and Terry Gonzales recently attended the 2015 Plein Air Convention & Expo in Monterey, CA. They’ve sent YouTube video links that share some of the events.

“There were 700-800 artists in attendance,” said Terry, “and we may even have set a record for the number of painters painting outdoors in one area.

“We were exposed to some wonderful artists and personalities. The images and experiences are still settling and forming our memories. Tucson, Arizona will be the site of the 5th Annual Plein Air Convention.

“I will send more images later.”

We are inviting anyone who is interested in creating a mural, or helping to paint one, to join us in the Plaza south side alley on May 9 and 23, from 8 AM to 1 PM.

Artists who have an idea for a mural, please bring a drawing and be prepared to explain the images. Create a design using the following words as a guide – cross-culture, place, people, Sonoran Desert, Ajo, mining town.

Plaza Gallery Exhibitions

Here are the upcoming exhibitions for Ajo’s Plaza Gallery.

May 8 – June 8, 2015
Tohono O’odham Community College exhibits “Next”, TOCC’s end of the year student show compiled by art teacher Kimberly Lund.
Opening Reception Friday May 8th, 6pm

June 12 – June 26, 2015
Ajo Unified School District, end of the year student show compiled by art teacher Allison Venturella.
Opening Reception Friday June 12th, 6pm

July and August are open. Propose a solo or group exhibition. All ideas are welcome. We are also looking for a volunteer to help with the opening receptions. You would not be doing it alone! If you are interested please contact us.

Strut Your Stuff at the Ajo Library

“If you’re looking for a place to display your talents, please think of the library,” says program coordinator Lee Irwin.

“We have a few exhibits booked during the next 12 months, but there are still many months where we fear we’ll be staring at ugly walls. Help us!”
