Last week’s Second Saturday was extra special with the addition of many new artists showcasing their work.
Although artists have always been a part of Second Saturday, Art Under the Arches brought out many artists who hadn’t shown their work here before. They set up their displays on both sides of the Plaza and on the grass.
We hope to see some of these artists back for 4th Saturday, February 23, when the Farmers’ Market folks will be back with more delicious produce.
We’re in for a grand treat this coming Wednesday February 19 — the Tucson Symphony Orchestra will be performing at the Dicus Auditorium in Ajo. What a wonderful opportunity to listen to some great music.
The pops theme concert — “That’s Amore! with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra” — includes many favorite tunes like Moon River, The Pink Panther, William Tell Overture, The Godfather and more.
The guest conductor is Albert-George Schram.
Tickets are $14 in advance and $15 at the door. You can purchase your tickets at Ajo Copper News, Ajo District Chamber of Commerce and Shadow Ridge RV Resort. Students are free. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
P.S. There will be tasty treats available for purchase during the intermission. 🙂
Sponsored by the Ajo Council for the Fine Arts
If you’re of a certain age you may remember vaudeville. And if you’re of another age, you might well ask, What the heck is that?
Vaudeville was very popular in the United States and Canada from the early 1880s to the early 1930s. It was what people enjoyed before movies, television, DVDs, Netflix and iPhones. It was live entertainment. It was fun. It was screwy. It was downright silly. Most of all it was entertaining
Vaudeville was the whole enchilada — comedians, dancers, magicians, trained animals, acrobats, singer, jugglers — anything and everything might appear on the theater stage right before your eyes.
And guess what? Vaudeville is alive and well in Ajo!
Even more amazing you could be part of this special and crazy evening. Do you recite poetry? Play an instrument? Sing? Act? Have a dog that does neat tricks? Well, drop down to the bottom of this post, fill out the form and join our very own Vaudeville 2014 show!
